Discerning Your Name

I was reading last night and I came across this scripture that I didn’t ever give much thought to, John 11:16 Therefore Thomas, who is called Didymus, said to his fellow disciples, “Let us also go, so that we may die with Him.”
It doesn’t make sense in the passage whatsoever other than the fact he is either willing to die now (sick of life) or was simply prophesying without realizing it?
A few years ago someone asked me what the meaning of my name was, he knew, but would never tell me. He said that the names mean a lot in his family and they really dive into them so this morning I’m reading commentary on my name through S. Thomas. Quite interesting, and truly seems true to me with my walk of life. From the double portion of spiritual nature, to the consistent war between unbelief and faith, and to the readying of leaving this world to go unto Heaven speaks a lot to me.
It leaves me with wonder and a sad outlook. It is amazing how we play into the roles of our name in life. To tell you a secret ever since I was a little boy I have had a suicidal tendency (that part isn’t a secret) but I always told Jesus that I want to die at 33 at the same age as him. I don’t want to live any longer than that. I never really could attribute it to anything but the lackluster of my parents. Or at least so I thought up to this point in life when I simply realized, I really am Thomas. I am twin to no one so what could it even mean if not for the spiritual sense. The sense of wanting to depart this world and be with my Father in the Heavenly realms? At age 33.. some would call this young.. I would call it well worth time spent here. However, with children in the mix now it seems highly selfish and I’m sure you would agree. So with 33 out the window comes the passion of life I must cling onto. The passion of seeing all of God’s people. The passion to uplift and care, to support and entertain! Though my spirit may be ready and willing to move on I can still make a great life of the one I was given here. And in that, is amazing excitement!

But the mystery continues as Cambridge Bible for Schools and Colleges writes

“die with him] Of course with Christ (John 11:8). It is strange that any should understand it of Lazarus. They could not die with him, for he was dead already, and S. Thomas knew this (John 11:14).”

Very, very interesting.

Life of God

What is the life of God?

Men’s (humans) light are the life of God.  ~  John 1 In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men. The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.

Why then do we treat others without love for God? Each and everyone of us are the light of God and He wishes that none should perish but why?

Why may seem like a silly question now giving the scripture in a highlighted context.

Maybe because a part of God dies with them. At such a small level of understanding as we, the human race has about all things on Earth, it shouldn’t be a bit of a surprise that we glance over scriptures like this without giving it much thought. Even that man over there that spits in my face and persecutes me for the name of Jesus was born as the light of God, the life of God, but into sin he came and was corrupted. This is why we are to love our enemies because they are still a part of God until the final day of judgement where it seems that God casts a bit of himself into the lake. What a crazy concept to wrap the head around. Perhaps, God will send some enlightenment my way.

I think when we understand where we come from spiritually and who we are as men and women that it makes it easier to pray for others. It takes a lot of understanding of God for me to coincide with Him. I may be the biggest fool but I just want to know God before I practice God. I want to understand God more and more every day and wonder why He has the patience that He does. To truly understand who we are in Him. It is a very amazing thing to know that we make up the light of God that separates the darkness from light. No wonder the light bulb was made. No wonder the eyes are the lamps of man. No wonder…

Diabolical Christianity

A couple nights ago as I lay in my bed about to go to sleep this term coined in my mind. What in the world? I didn’t have much of a clear picture of what this actually was or meant at the time. The next morning I wake up and scroll through my Facebook feed and notice that a pastor is blaming people for participating in Black Friday at 4am but not going to church or simply being late to church?

How does this make you feel?

For me, it irritated me because I was being spoken to as I am not a pastor and it was targeted to Christians and non-Christians alike. I don’t even get up at 4am for Black Friday and with the internet doing Black Friday for nearly a month this seems to be insane to say in the first place. Maybe he doesn’t have a computer.. which is totally not an excuse as he obviously at least has a smartphone to be smart on Facebook with.

Scrolling down even farther I hear a Christian news station talk about how a pastor from James River Assembly of God (which I attended when I was in my youth) had spoken about the demonic roots of Yoga. Hmm.. interesting. But he went on to say to abstain from it which caused commotion in the Bible belt of the USA and actually started to split churches.

How does this make you feel?

Now, I’m really irritated. I’m an older gent, 30, old enough to know that Christmas has demonic roots. Old enough to know that the Easter bunny is no saint. Old enough to know that Halloween has demonic roots. Old enough to know almost every single holiday we participate in has demonic roots. Old enough to know that our calendar with the days and their names signify pagan gods. Old enough to know that I don’t live in Israel.

So what now?

Because of the ignorance of another pastor, because this pastor thinks that Christians are practicing a demonic ritual and raising the spiritual forces of darkness by doing Yoga, because this pastor is lying to his sheep, because… what a mess. If Christians know how to do one thing at the supervisory level it is to make a mess that has to be cleaned up for generations after. Well prophets, have fun cleaning up this mess, I’d say people shouldn’t be so dumb and follow this pastor blindly, yet they will.

And if you really want to make this argument against me that Yoga is satanic than you better be prepared to throw every holiday in the trash can and leave the United States of America because the air you breathe is demonic.

Now, with my highly disagreement with what happened and what was said I do want to say in no way do I know the person behind the pulpit who spoke. I believe it was simply a mistake, I have to for now because this is the only negative thing I have heard. I’m not going to hate this person but I will not agree with what he is saying. Exercising the body should not be called demonic by any means regardless or not if it had roots of demonic activity. We will take the bad and turn it to good use as we have done so many times before. Relax.

Quit giving life to Satan and death to the sheep. I mean this by saying, quit saying that we can’t do things that benefit us in a healthy way and call it something else. Quit giving the power to Satan to immobilize us. It would be easy to say war is demonic and to abstain. Yet, where would that leave us as a nation?

So simply saying, diabolical Christianity is the further splitting of the church and its members. Dismembering the church for a false higher good. Telling people they’re worshiping Satan and shouldn’t when in fact they were never doing that and their hearts are with God and their spirits are intertwined with the Holy Spirit’s and they’re brother is Jesus Christ who is also their Lord and Savior.

Why Mindlessly Serve a God You Don’t Know?

I invite you today to crack open your Bible. Randomly flip it open to a place of your desiring and start in a new book you haven’t read or don’t remember much of. Take your time and read through the scriptures slowly. Remind yourself that the HS teaches you as you move along and have confidence in yourself while reading. Don’t force yourself to read too much and don’t force yourself to quit early. You will know when your spirit has had enough and you will begin to ponder on certain scriptures as you ask yourself why and start to figure out how God thinks and moves. Answers will come. Some as an epiphany and some as enlightenment. This will enlarge your day and give it purpose as you work through the tasks of the day. It is always a joy to lean into the Lord and learn Him as we move about. It is funny how we start a day with Him on our minds first and then begin to watch everything fall into place throughout the day. It really is an amazing experience.

So, you, who doesn’t know the Lord for themselves. Take a moment and relax. Release yourself unto the Word be it a scripture or two maybe a chapter or three. Whatever it is you can handle in the particular area you are in. And I genuinely would love you to enjoy your day. Today.

Hearing God’s Voice (Not What You Wanted to Hear)

Many things come to mind of what people have said about this but I want to illustrate something to you. I want to show you what I am talking about and it is probably not something that the majority of Christians want to hear.

I went hunting over the weekend on a little get-away vacation. First, we needed the supplies or in this case, the supply, to go hunting with. What was that? It was a black-light flashlight and a pretty powerful one at that. We’re hunting rocks, yooperlite rocks, to be exact. The warning is a great one, do not shine this in your eyes because it will burn your retinas out and do not shine on your skin because it will cause cancer. Yikes!

We waited for the most opportune time to go hunting which was when it was pitch black outside and only the beautiful stars shone in the sky. Not because we had to but because this was the easiest thing and way to do it without struggling. Where do we find these rocks? Around Lake Superior.

So what does this have to do with God and His voice?

Something that stood out to me as we were searching for these Yooperlites is that we kept saying to one another, “is that one? What about that one?” But when we started to find them there was no question to ask because it lit up and stood out among all the others and there wasn’t even a little bit of a doubt in our minds. This is kind of how God’s voice is. When we finally hear it, there is no doubt, it stands out from all the other voices and enlightens us extremely.

I’ve noticed a lot of people throughout my travels (in the USA) seem to want to look to everyone else to learn about God. They want to listen to sermons, or prophetic voices, for a ‘word’ from God. Which, let us face it, isn’t a bad thing. However, the bad thing is when we don’t consult God’s Word [(Voice)Bible] first or at all for a lot of people. I have a few prophetic friends in real life (not on the internet) but sometimes they don’t always seem so skilled in the area of the Bible and it is extremely weird to me. Don’t get me wrong these are extremely gifted people but why don’t we know what the Bible has to say? Why don’t we care? I have many questions concerning a lot.

I John 2:27 But you have received the Holy Spirit, and he lives within you, so you don’t need anyone to teach you what is true. For the Spirit teaches you everything you need to know, and what he teaches is true–it is not a lie. So just as he has taught you, remain in fellowship with Christ.

I’ve said all this to say this. It is very helpful to God when we align our hunting of His Voice with the proper supplies, the proper tools. Then we are rewarded greatly for diligently seeking Him.

Having the Bible within our hearts, in our knowledge, and in our thoughts is a great foundation for moving forward in the kingdom of God.

Joshua 1:8 Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.

Does God Give Us More Than we can Handle?

The old adage, “No, God doesn’t give us more than we can handle.” isn’t quite correct. A recent scripture was tossed in my face that made me think twice. Many thanks to http://www.theanonymousjesus.wordpress.com for reminding me of a scripture and having me take a deeper look into this. The scripture he supplied me with was out of II Corinthians in Chapter 1 verses 1-8. Let us take a look!

“We were under great pressure, far beyond our ability to endure, so that we despaired of life itself. Indeed, we felt we had received the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead. He has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us again. On him we have set our hope that he will continue to deliver us, as you help us by your prayers.” – 2 Corithians 1:8-11

I didn’t want to sound like a baby most of my life but it just seemed that I was always under constant pressure from one arena to the next. Every season of my life something new was pressurizing me but I figured it for the good, which it is, but we should remember to be loving towards those who seem to be struggling at certain moments.

The next time we have a pressurizing feeling we should take a step to our left and let God handle the situation and just enjoy the ride. I know this is very simply said vs being done so let us be patient with one another in the things we endure.

Unifying the Body

How is it we can once again unify the body of Christ? I ask this because it has been on my heart for the last month is mourning about how the body of Christ is split into different sects of the city. Why can’t we just have one massive assembly? Why not, at least, once in awhile have a massive assembly.. what about just once a year?

How could we unify the body of Christ? Is it possible that the leaders of every sect could gather themselves into a room and decide on this without festering over each other. Is it possible for the church to love itself again?

Now just imagine for a second that these churches did unify and had a massive assembly once a year. Could you imagine the onlookers? The look of awe on their faces when they look to see a sea of faces of God’s people?

You know what I can’t wait about Heaven? It is this very thing! Imagine being amidst each other in a crowd of billions if not a trillion people in Heaven singing praises. How amazing this would be.

Take a second to think about if the church would unify once a month and it happened outside. Take a second to think about all the non-believers who would actually think, “maybe there is something to this” as they drive by. How many new lives would be saved do you think?

Let us bring hope to people’s lives again. Anyone else sick of just being enclosed in a building far off away from others where no one can see in? I know I am. I am ready for a mass flood of God’s people to just praise him outdoors among the nations. Just come together and rejoice. How cool it would be to be an all day thing once a month. Like a concert going continually with speakers here and there. Oh happy days.

Breakthrough vs Stay-through

Breakthrough, breakthrough, we need a breakthrough! Well, I’m am happy for all those who stay-through and keep pushing to the breakthrough stage. I once heard a pastor, probably ill advised in hype, tell people they need to quit needing a breakthrough.

Listen, breakthroughs are an amazing thing. But if you hear a teaching telling you that you don’t, well, it is probably safe to say they don’t know what they’re talking about! We wouldn’t need breakthroughs if we didn’t have stay-throughs. Not everyone is a hypochondriac. I’ve heard a lot of ill advise from preaching growing up but this one reminded was brought back to memory about three days ago and it came back to correct my thinking. Yes, I have given in and trusted 110% in what pastors had to say just to be burned in the future and then have God correct me. Funny thing is I didn’t give much heed to this word from the pastor but it obviously still stuck in my subconscious.

A breakthrough is such an amazing thing. What breakthrough did I get you wonder? I spent the better part of a week reading and rereading about trade options on the stock market until it finally just clicked. I felt so elated and relieved and for the most part happy then made $100 off $65. Amazing stuff. It reminds me of the parable of the talents. May I please the Lord to be smart enough to rule over things He gives to me. To each one according to their abilities. Amazing stuff. What are your abilities? What are you pushing through? Where do you need a breakthrough? Would love to hear from you guys!

The Importance of Attending Church

“Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together…”

We need each other in one way or another. The only place we really assemble anymore in mass is a church building. Which is fine, but, the reason I believe people stop going to church is because it can be superfluous.

What do you mean by that?

I’m not saying what we are doing is wrong per say.. although I don’t believe in the announcements, singing, preaching then go home approach in a controlled manner. First of all the trinity isn’t a control freak and the HS flows at His will. Most modern day churches miss it and I think it is causing a dark ages for the church. Now, I’m not saying that announcements, worship, and preaching is wrong. Far from it but the way it is done can be quite boring. Some churches do have an awesome worship time and do let the HS flow. But the majority as I have seen while moving throughout the USA is substantially boring and not challenging at all with worship music that died in the 1800’s.

Now back to point. What is the importance in attending then? Even if all these things are true and it seems to be a drag?

A lot of God’s fire people have left the church. Wonderful people that live out loud have simply stopped attending because they don’t like the agenda. But, we need to get over ourselves in that manner because without going then nothing can be done that is well for the Lord within a church atmosphere. It almost makes us, “lukewarm” in a sense and we know what happens then. Furthermore, we are inclined by God to keep gathering with His people to exhort each other for the day is surely coming. Keep each other lifted up.

We’re missing teachers, we’re missing the prophetic, we’re missing the apostles, we’re missing the evangelists but we are outnumbered with pastors everywhere. Are pastors the only ones that have remained faithful to the church?

“So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers…”

Hello! Please come back!

“to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up”

..but I found the prophets hiding in their own homes..

“until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.”

Doesn’t it seem so far out of reach? Have we really let the world’s competition get in the middle of church? Have we really chastised each other out? Have we really squashed each other in the name of exhortation? Have we really kicked out the prophets and put them in hiding? Have we really settled for teaching of the simple things? Have we turned down the meat of the scripture? Have we really tried to organize the Holy Spirit? Have we really tried to say 30 minutes of worship is enough? Have we really given into the NFL instead of God? Have we really given into the need for people to have to be home vs gathered? Has this generation really missed the point?

We should forgive each other and reunite. It’d do the kingdom wonders. Press on saints!
